Ronald "Ronnie" Romero (born November 20, 1981 , Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean hard rock and heavy metal singer. He was the front man of the rock band Lords of Black . Since 2016 he has been the singer of the hard rock band Rainbow , since 2017 also the singer of the band CoreLeoni .

Life

Ronnie Romero was born in Chile and grew up in a Protestant family of musicians. At the age of 7 he started singing in a gospel choir. He later discovers that his true calling is heavy metal, inspired by singers like Ronnie James Dio (Rainbow, Black Sabbath), Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), David Coverdale (Deep Purple, Whitesnake) and Steve Perry (Journey). At the age of 17 in Santiago de Chile, Romero saw his idol Ronnie James Dio for the first and only time live on stage at a festival in 1997. Romero currently lives in the Spanish capital, Madrid.

Lords of Black

He is a founding member and was the lead singer of the Spanish group Lords of Black from 2014 to 2018.

Rainbow

On November 6, 2015, Ritchie Blackmore publicly announced that Ronnie would be the new lead singer for Rainbow . In 2016 Ronnie Romero performed live with Rainbow at Monsters of Rock festivals. Romero's first concert with Rainbow took place on June 17, 2016 on the Loreley open-air stage in St. Goarshausen. Rainbow hadn't played live in 19 years. In 2018 they made music in the Berlin Velodrom , Moscow and London. In 2019 concerts at major festivals such as "Sweden Rock", "Rock the coast Madrid" and also in the Olympiahalle in Munich followed. According to Blackmore, his wife Candice Night accidentally discovered videos of Romero's Spanish rainbow tribute band "Rising" and their interpretation of the song "Man on the silver mountain" on the Internet and recommended Blackmore to listen to this singer. Because of the discovery of Romero, he had the idea to reactivate the band Rainbow with him.

CoreLeoni

In the Swiss band CoreLeoni , a project by individual Gotthard members, Ronnie Romero has also been a singer since it was founded in 2017. Gotthard guitarist Leo Leoni and Ronnie Romero met in 2014, before Romero was hired by Rainbow. Romero had played with his band "Lords of Black" in the opening act for Gotthard in the Spanish cities of Bilbao and Barcelona. From this encounter a friendship and fruitful collaboration grew, which a few years later resulted in the formation of the new band CoreLeoni.

other projects

In 2020 Ronnie Romero will go on tour with Michael Schenker . In addition, a new studio album by the band Vandenberg will be released in 2020 , in which Romero will be the lead singer.
