Department of Veterans Affairs
Ronny Jackson was nominated by President Donald Trump as a candidate to head the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2017 . Observers criticized Jackson's lack of qualification and the press suspected that Jackson owed the nomination to the fact that he had publicly issued a good health report to Trump.
However, allegations of Jackson's wrongdoing were brought to the committee responsible for filling the post. Jackson's hearing by the committee, scheduled for April 25, 2018, was canceled the day before. The Trump administration apparently hadn't done a background check before nominating Jackson. In April 2018, it was reported in the press that Jackson had apparently been too generous in dispensing prescription drugs, drank while at work, and was guilty of misconduct at work. As a result of the allegations, Jackson withdrew his candidacy on April 26, 2018, but called the allegations “completely false and fabricated” in a statement.
