Rose Chéri ( Rose-Marie Cizos , born October 27, 1824 in Étampes , † September 22, 1861 in Passy (Paris) ) was a French actress .

Life

Rose Chéri was the daughter of the actor Jean-Baptiste Chéri Cizos and the actress Sophie-Juliette Chéri Cizos . Her sister was the actress Anna Chéri, her brother the composer Victor Chéri . She performed under the direction of her father at the age of six. In 1832 she danced a bolero in Bayonne in the performance of the opera La muette de Portici .

In 1842 she made her debut in Paris at the Théâtre du Gymnase Marie Bell , which was directed by Charles-Gaspard Delestre-Poirson . In 1847 she married the actor Adolphe Lemoine (Montigny), who had been director of the Théâtre du Gymnase from 1844. During her short career she played roles in plays by Eugène Scribe , Michel-Jean Sedaine , Alexandre Dumas , Émile Augier , Victorien Sardou , George Sand and others with great success . In 1861 she died of diphtheria.

Her younger sister Anna Chéri was also a member of the Théâtre du Gymnase. She married the actor François-Louis Lesueur in 1852 . In 1854 she had great success in the piece Flaminio by George Sand . After Lesueur's death (1878), she retired from the stage in 1880. She died in the early 1900s.
