Rosemary Holy

Rosemarie Heilig , née Oswald , (born October 3, 1956 in Limburg an der Lahn ) is a German biologist and politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). She has been a member of the municipal authorities of the City of Frankfurt am Main since July 13, 2012, initially as Department Head for Environment and Health and since 15 July 2016 as Department Head for Environment and Women .

Life

As the sixth of eight children of a stoker, Rosemarie Heilig was the only one in the family to graduate from high school. Before studying biology at Frankfurt University from 1978 onwards , she spent a year in a kibbutz in Israel. Before graduating in 1985 (subject: soil acidification and forest dieback ), she completed a one-year internship at an organic farm .

Profession and Politics

After completing her studies, Rosemarie Heilig worked for the nature conservation organization WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), an ecological information service, for the Ökobank and as a scientific assistant to the Greens in the Frankfurt municipal parliament. From 1993 to 1997 she was a city councilor for the Greens and a member of the environmental committee.

From 1998 to 2001 Rosemarie Heilig was head of the environmental agency for the city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein . In 2002 she returned to Frankfurt and was an advisor to Jutta Ebeling , head of the environment department, for four years . During this time she was initially part-time managing director of Abfallverbrennungsanlagen GmbH, whose renovation she was responsible for full-time from 2006. Since completing this task in 2009, she has been planning Europe's first passive house clinic in Frankfurt-Höchst as managing director .

At the beginning of February 2012, Rosemarie Heilig was elected Department Head for Environment and Health in Frankfurt. She sees her political priorities in climate protection, noise reduction and the promotion of lively, green urban areas that are no longer dominated by road traffic. After the local elections in March 2016, Rosemarie Heilig remained a city councilor and is now responsible for the environment and women.

Rosemarie Heilig was also the candidate of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in the first round of the mayoral election on March 11, 2012 in Frankfurt am Main, but did not make it into the runoff election with 14.0% of the votes.
