Jutta Ebeling (born July 25, 1946 in Streitberg (Wiesenttal) ) is a German politician from Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and was Mayor of Frankfurt am Main from May 2006 to February 2012 .

education and profession

Jutta Ebeling attended the drawing school in Frankfurt am Main, where she graduated from high school in 1966. She then studied German literature, philosophy and political science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main from 1966 to 1972 and at the University of Tübingen. In 1974 Jutta Ebeling passed the second state examination for teaching at grammar schools.

From 1974 to 1989 Jutta Ebeling u. a. Teacher at the integrated comprehensive school in Mörfelden-Walldorf, at the upper secondary school in Groß Gerau and at the Carl-Schurz-Schule in Frankfurt am Main.

politics

Jutta Ebeling joined the Greens in 1984. After the Frankfurt municipal elections in 1989, in which the SPD and the Greens replaced the CDU as the ruling party, Jutta Ebeling was elected Head of School and Education on June 15, 1989.

In 1995 Ebeling was re-elected and additionally received the department for multicultural affairs. As part of a new municipal distribution, Mayor Petra Roth withdrew the Department for Multicultural Affairs in 2000. Dr. Albrecht Magen. Instead, Ebeling was given responsibility for the libraries.

After the local elections in 2001 and the formation of the four-party alliance of CDU, SPD, Greens and FDP, Jutta Ebeling became the department head for education, the environment and women.

After the local elections in 2006 and the formation of a black-green coalition, Jutta Ebeling was elected Mayor of Frankfurt am Main on July 13, 2006. As a department head she headed the department for education and women. On February 2, 2012 the city council elected Sarah Sorge as head of department and Olaf Cunitz as mayor as their successors.
