Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow is the second studio album by the American band Down . It was released on Elektra Records in March 2002 .

Origin and style

Since Down is a supergroup , after NOLA the band members concentrated again on their respective bands ( EyeHateGod , Corrosion of Conformity , Crowbar and Pantera ). However, Phil Anselmo , Pepper Keenan and Jimmy Bower got together again in 1999. Rex Brown had replaced Todd Strange on bass. According to the booklet, the album itself was written and recorded within 28 days at Nodferatu's Lair, 45 miles west of New Orleans . The album title comes from Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin . The last piece, Landing on the Mountains of Meggido , also has reminiscences of Led Zeppelin. With Stephanie Opal Weinstein , a guest singer can be heard on the song.

reception

The album peaked at number 44 on the Billboard 200 . Brian O'Neill of Allmusic wrote that a large part of the songs could also be on a newer album by COC. Only a few pieces stand out, including the "almost psychedelic " Beautifully Depressed and Landing on the Mountains of Meggido . He awarded two out of five stars. Peter Kubaschk from Powermetal.de also saw influences from COC, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. “This mix is completely independent and conclusive in itself. It is also extremely varied. "
