Pepper Keenan (born May 8, 1967 in Oxford , Mississippi ) is an American singer and guitarist who was best known for his work for the bands Corrosion of Conformity and Down .

Career

Keenan was born in Oxford, Mississippi, but lives in New Orleans , where he owns a bar. In his youth he was active in a band called Graveyard Rodeo, which is where he got to know Corrosion of Conformity.

COC

Keenan joined COC in 1989 and released the album Blind with them . After Karl Agell and Phil Swisher left, Keenan took over the vocals in addition to the guitar. Keenan released several albums with COC since 2006 he was no longer part of the band until he was again on a reunion tour with COC in 2015. Since then he has been active again as a guitarist and singer there, which was confirmed by signing a contract with the record label Nuclear Blast in the same year.

Down

In 1991 Pepper Keenan formed the band Down with Phil Anselmo from Pantera , Jimmy Bower from Eyehategod , Kirk Windstein and Todd Strange from Crowbar . The band, which was initially founded as a project, paused several times, but has now released three albums, and another release is planned.

Other Projects

Keenan, who is friends with James Hetfield from Metallica (Keenan sang on the Metallica cover Tuesday's Gone by Lynyrd Skynyrd , Hetfield sang on Man or Ash from the COC album Wiseblood ) also auditioned as bassist for Metallica after Jason Newsted left the band. The audition can be seen in Some Kind of Monster . In 2006 Keenan also played live with Metallica Die, Die, My Darling from the Misfits , with Matthew Heafy from Trivium .
