Rosenda Monteros (born August 31, 1935 in Veracruz as Rosa Méndez Leza ; † December 29, 2018 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican actress . She gained international fame through her role as Petra in the 1960 western The Magnificent Seven .

Life

Rosenda Monteros took acting lessons from the Japanese actor Sano Seki , who lived in Mexico City from 1939 . Monteros received her first extra role in 1954 at the age of nineteen in the Mexican production Reto a la vida , followed by her first major film appearance in Llévame en tus brazos that same year .

After several roles in Mexican films, Monteros received a major supporting role in the American film noir Under Suspicion of Murder in 1956 . This was followed by other appearances in Hollywood productions before she received her most famous role in the 1960 western The Magnificent Seven . She embodied Petra , who later became the wife of the gunslinger Chico (played by Horst Buchholz ). In 1965 Monteros was seen as Ustane in Ruler of the Desert .

After further roles in American film productions, Monteros returned to Mexican cinema in the 1970s and was now increasingly involved in television series. In 1980 she took on the role of Hehaka Win in the television series Mein Freund Winnetou , which was co-produced by German, French and Swiss television stations. Monteros had her last television appearance in 2007 in an episode of the series Lo Que Callamos Las Mujeres . However, she remained active as a stage actress until the end of her life.

Rosenda Monteros was married to the Mexican director and screenwriter Julio Bracho from 1955 to 1957 . The marriage ended in divorce. She died on December 29, 2018 at the age of 83.
