Rosenery Mello

Rosenery Mello do Nascimento (* 1965 in Rio de Janeiro ; † June 4, 2011 in Lins de Vasconcelos , Rio de Janeiro) was the cover girl of the Brazilian edition of Playboy . As Fogueteira do Maracanã , she sparked one of the biggest scandals in Chilean football in 1989 .

Career

On September 3, 1989, she threw in the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro in the second half of the World Cup qualifier Brazil - Chile when the score was 1-0 from the fan blocks from a fireworks on the field. He landed close to the Chilean goalkeeper Roberto Rojas , who went down and was carried off the field with a bleeding head. The Chilean team then left the field and the game was canceled. Video footage later showed that Rojas was not hit by the fireworks, but had self-inflicted the injuries. He was then suspended for life and the Chilean federation was excluded from qualifying for the World Cup in 1990 and 1994.

Mello experienced great media interest in her home country. In November 1989 she was featured on the cover of the Brazilian edition of Playboy .

In June 2011 she suffered an aneurysm and died in Hospital Naval Marcílio Dias in Lins de Vasconcelos. She was buried in the Parque da Paz cemetery in São Gonçalo (Rio de Janeiro).
