The Rosenheim Rebels are the American football department of the multi-discipline club SB DJK Rosenheim from Rosenheim .

history

After the founding of the Rebels in 1989, the club has steadily improved over the years. In 1992, the team made it to the Bayernliga Süd, where they were unbeaten in first place the following year.

In the play-offs she was able to prevail against the Kümmersbruck Red Devils and thus rose to the 2nd Bundesliga South. There she established herself as a newcomer in the end on a remarkable 5th place out of seven teams. This place in the table would have meant remaining in the 2nd Bundesliga South, but the Rebels had to relegate due to a league reform (establishment of the regional league).

Due to the loss of players and the resulting thin player ceiling, the Rebels could not prevail in the newly formed regional league in 1995 and had to relegate to the Bayern league. Even in the following years it was not possible to increase the number of players enough, so that the league had to be stopped during the 1998 season and only got a state league license for the next year. The next few years were used to build up the team in a healthy way. From 1999 to 2001, despite individual departures, a good player base was established on which to build for the next few years.

The sporting success came back in 2002. Although second place was achieved, the Rosenheimers rose due to another league reform and played the following year in the Bayernliga Süd, in which the Rebels found themselves in first place after a strong season. In the play-offs against the champions of the Bayernliga Nord, the Aschaffenburg Stallions, the Rebels were also able to prevail and were promoted to the Regionalliga Süd.

In 2004 they successfully established themselves as a new league player and took 3rd place at the end of the season. In the following season this result could be improved, and so at the end of the 2005 season the team took second place, which entitled to play-off participation for the 2nd Bundesliga South. The play-off games were lost in a direct comparison against the Jena Hanfrieds .

In the following years, the Rosenheim Rebels were plagued by serious staff concerns. This subsequently led to relegation to the Bavarian State League. In the 2013 season, games were suspended due to the weak personnel structure. This time was used to regroup the team and make it fit for the future. Head coach Florian Geyer, with the help of the American coach Dick Fahrney, managed to build up a team capable of playing again. Since it mainly consisted of rookies, the Rosenheim Rebels started in the 2014 season in the advanced league. There the new Rebels could gain gaming experience. In the 2015 season, the players will compete in the Landesliga Süd, led by head coach Peter Gruber.

In order to not only document the rebuilding in a sporty way, the jersey colors were changed and a new, modern logo was introduced for the entire department.

In the 2015 Landesliga season there was a narrow 24-21 win against the Traunreut Munisiers, the remaining games were unfortunately all lost.

So in 2016 we went to the task of the national league again with many rookies and some experienced players from the previous season. It was a tough season full of experiences for the newly formed Rosenheim Rebels. Again there was only one victory in the entire season, which, however, faced eight defeats.

In 2017, the state league was reported again, but for various reasons such as the withdrawal of some players and the rift with the board of directors, the report on league operations was withdrawn. The Hefter / Geier board has left the association and T.Kain has become the acting board member.

In the summer of 2017, the team made contact with former players and founding members of the Rosenheim Rebels, with the request for support. In October 2017, a new board was elected with the goal of bringing the Rebels back to the old heyday of Rosenheim football.

For the 2018 season, the newly formed Rebels team started in the advanced league. The new board of directors and their team worked with high pressure and motivation together with the new coaches on a team for the future. The club colors have been adjusted to match the main club SB DJK Rosenheim, but have been modernized a little. The old Rebels General has been taken out and replaced with a new modern logo.

The 2018 season was successfully finished second in the table, which meant that he was immediately promoted to the Landesliga Süd. Since 2018, cheerleaders have been training again with the Rosenheim Rebels, the Rebel Roses Rosenheim. The 2019 season in the Landesliga Süd ended with seven wins and only one defeat in first place as champions. In the play-offs for promotion, the Rosenheim Rebels won against the Weiden Vikings and lost to the Amberg Mad Bulldogs in the last game of the 2019 season. Since Weiden also lost to Amberg, the Rosenheimers and Amberg will rise and play in the Bayern League in 2020.
