Rosse is a small, bowl-shaped impact crater to the east of the front of the moon , in the Mare Nectaris plain , northeast of the Fracastorius crater .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Irish astronomer William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse .
