Rost is an impact crater in the south of the front of the moon , southeast of the Schiller crater and northwest of Scheiner . The crater appears deepened in a plateau, the crater rim only moderately eroded and the crater floor level.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German astronomer Johann Leonhard Rost .
