The Rostocker Bank in Rostock was a private bank founded in 1850 with the right to issue banknotes ( private bank ).

history

The Rostocker Bank was founded on March 4, 1850 in Rostock . With the establishment of the empire in 1871, the member states of the empire lost their legislative rights with regard to the monetary system. The Reichsbank was not given a monopoly on the issue of banknotes ; the existing central banks retained the right to issue banknotes to the extent specified in the Annex to Section 9 of the Banking Act of March 14, 1875. The only central bank in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin was the Rostocker Bank. However, this gave up the central bank function in 1877/78 in order not to have to accept any restrictions on its further banking business (in particular the mortgage business ) (as was intended for central banks).

In 1930 the Mecklenburgische Bank (founded in 1880) in Schwerin was taken over , and in 1933 it merged with the Mecklenburgische Depositen- und Wechselbank . The Rostocker Bank was then continued as a branch (from 1943 of the Mecklenburg Bank , Schwerin). In 1947 the Mecklenburger Bank was relocated to Cologne for settlement. In 1963 the head office was relocated to Lübeck and in 1964 it was renamed Norddeutsche Hypotheken- und Wechselbank . After various mergers, this was part of Hypothekenbank Frankfurt, which was taken off the market in May 2016 .
