The district archive Bodenseekreis is the municipal archive of the Bodenseekreis in Baden-Württemberg . It was founded in 1979. The district archive is a department of the district culture office.

history

The Bodenseekreis has existed since 1973 through the amalgamation of the Tettnang district in the east and the main southern part of the Überlingen district . At times the archive was located at the administrative headquarters of the district in Friedrichshafen and later in Markdorf . The archive has been located in Salem Castle since 2006 . At the time of the move, the archive contained 40,000 volumes and 2,000 works of art.

tasks

The district archive is responsible for the evaluation and permanent storage of the official documents from the administration of the district office; the support of users through advice, accompaniment and the creation of tools; the support and advice of the district communities that do not provide their own professional support for their archive; and public relations, especially through guided tours, lectures and participation in events.

management

The overall responsibility for the district archive lies with the head of the district culture office. From 1979 to 2009 the historian Elmar L. Kuhn held the office. The contemporary historian Stefan Feucht has been responsible for the cultural office and thus the district archive since September 2009.

Projects

The district archive has also been responsible for the technical support of the Kurt Hahn archive of the Schloss Salem school since 2011 . The collection, which today is estimated at around 140 meters of archive material, was put together by school staff over the past 60 years and is made accessible through finding aids.

Until the end of 2020, the recording of small monuments in the Lake Constance area (e.g. field crosses , inscriptions , statues and boundary stones ) will be funded as a special project with the support of over 80 volunteers .

Events and publications

Since 1996, the District Archives assumes the since 1993 by the German Foundation for Monument Protection coordinated and under the motto European Heritage Days advertised Open Monument Day in part. The program is carried out together with the Working Group on the History of the Lake Constance District and each year focuses on a new focus topic, which is documented in a printed guide booklet.
