The Rotenburg Cyclones (officially: Cyclones Sports Family e.V.) are a German American football team that was founded in the summer of 1987 in Rotenburg (Wümme) .

history

The Rotenburg Cyclones were founded in July 1987 by some football fans around coach Jürgen Rinck and played their first season in the Verbandsliga Nord in 1988, in which, however, every game was lost. This season two successive championship titles followed and in 1990 promotion to the second Bundesliga North. Behind the Berlin Rebels , the Rotenburg Cyclones took second place in 1991, which is the highlight of the club's history to date. However, 1992 was unsuccessful. Only one of 12 games could be won. At the end of the season the Cyclones were badly worn out and a break followed. In the 1994 season, the Cyclones started in the Landesliga Nord B and were champions again. In the following three years, the team was able to establish itself in the top division. The U19 team celebrated the greatest success in their new history in 2018 with the championship of the Oberliga-Nord with seven wins and only one loss.

Merger 1st attempt

At the end of 1997 the Rotenburg Cyclones decided together with the neighboring Zeven Flames to set up a joint football team, the Rotenburg Wümme Pikes . A catastrophic first season followed after only one year for immediate dissolution.

Start-up

In 2002 some former players dared a fresh start and the club was founded under the name Cyclones Sports Family e. V. , to which the Rotenburg Cyclones and the cheerleading team Rotenburg Twisters belong, was newly founded. In autumn 2006, the Rotenburg Cyclones hosted games for the first time and registered a team for the Association League 2007, in which the team has been active again since then.

Merger 2nd attempt

After both the Rotenburg Cyclones and the Zeven Flames played a weak season in 2009, both teams decided in September of that year to join a game community with Vechta Wild Things. The new team was called Zeven Northern United and joined the Lower Saxony North Association in 2010. In the first year they were able to play a ' perfect season ' and move up to the top league. The club has been registered in Rotenburg since 2019 and is now called Northern United at Rotenburg. In the same year, the Bremer Rebels joined the association.
