Perfect season
The perfect season or just perfect season is a term from the field of sport. The term originated in the United States as the Perfect Season or Perfect Record when a team has won all regular season games or all regular and post-season games . For the team, this is a proof of performance that goes beyond winning the title. However, if a team is sure to qualify for home play in the playoffs, the late games will often spare regulars, which can lead to defeat.
The German term is also used for an individual athlete who has decided every competition in a season for himself.
American football
United States
In the National Football League , only the Miami Dolphins have achieved a perfect season in 1972 with 17 wins including Super Bowl VII . The New England Patriots , who won 18 games in the playoffs in the 2007 season but then lost to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl , managed a perfect regular season with 16 match days .
Germany
In American-style sports, the term (sometimes in quotation marks) is also used in Germany. The New Yorker Lions from Braunschweig managed a perfect season in the German Football League (GFL) in the 2014 season and thus won the German Bowl .
Futsal
Austria
In the 1st ÖFB Futsal League, 1. FC Allstars Wiener Neustadt was the first team in Austria to achieve the perfect season in the 2019/20 season . With 16 wins from 16 games (regular season and upper play-off), the Murexin Allstars became Austrian champions for the third time in a row, ahead of city rivals Fortuna Wr. Neustadt.
Handball
Germany
The THW Kiel managed in the 2011-12 Handball-Bundesliga a perfect season with 34 wins and a goal difference of +298 gates (1107: 809).
Spain
The FC Barcelona move four perfect seasons of the season 2013/14 to 2016/17 in the League ASOBAL . In addition, they played 146 league games from May 18, 2013 to April 13, 2018 in a row without loss.
Mountain bike
Cross country
The Swiss Nino Schurter managed 6 out of 6 races in the 2017 season . In addition, he won a gold medal in the individual and mixed relay at the World Championships . In the same year he won "the Tour de France des mountain biking" the Cape Epic with Matthias Stirnemann .
Downhill
British rider Rachel Atherton managed 7 out of 7 races in the 2016 season . In addition, she won a gold medal in downhill at the world championships .
