The red cross

The listed Red Cross is about 200 meters from the eastern outskirts of Hochkirchen in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia , at Kreisstraße 16.

The cross, popularly known as "Et rude Krözzje" (the red cross), is made of sandstone and is about two meters high. From the former inscription God save us from lightning and thunderstorms nothing can be seen anymore.

The cross was moved about 50 meters in a north-westerly direction as part of a land consolidation in 1970. At the current location there was a red painted wooden cross until about 1900, from which the name is not supposed to have been derived. It is derived from a legend that reads as follows:

“Centuries ago, when a person from Hochkirchen awarded something that had not been returned to him after a long time, lenders and lenders met where the cross now stands. The lender asked the lender to finally give the thing back. They got into an argument about it, in the course of which the lender was killed by the lender. "

Even today, people in the village say if you don't get a loan back soon: "You can go and get it again at the red cross."

The left arm of the cross was reattached in 2015.

The wayside cross was entered on March 14, 1985 in the monument list of the municipality of Nörvenich under No. 37.
