The Meyer Burger (Germany) GmbH (until 31 August 2015 Roth & Rau AG ) is a formerly publicly traded German company operating various equipment and machines for the photovoltaic - and semiconductor industry produces.

There are plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) systems for the anti-reflective coating and passivation of crystalline silicon solar cells , plasma etching systems for edge isolation and other dry etching for photovoltaics and plasma process equipment for research and development established. Meyer Burger also offers turnkey production lines for the manufacture of crystalline silicon solar cells. The focus is on high-efficiency solar cells with so-called heterojunction technology. Thermal production systems for solar cell production are also part of the product range. The former Roth & Rau location in Hohenstein-Ernstthal is now the largest development and production location of the Meyer Burger Group.

history

Roth & Rau Oberflächentechnik GmbH was founded on June 22, 1990 in Chemnitz at the Chemnitz University of Technology , and launched the first product on the market in 1991 with cyclotron resonance plasma sources. Export to the Asian region, especially Taiwan, South Korea and India, began in 1996. In 2001 the company name was changed to Roth & Rau Oberflächentechnik AG, and in 2002 Rohwedder AG became the new main shareholder of Roth & Rau Oberflächentechnik AG with a share of 60 percent. The company was strategically oriented towards photovoltaics and in 2003 the production area was expanded to 3400 m². The company was renamed Roth & Rau AG in 2004 and the actual IPO took place on May 11, 2006. 19.6 percent of the shares remained in the possession of Rohwedder AG. Rohwedder sold its shares in Roth & Rau on February 22, 2007, except for 100 shares.

On April 11, 2011, Roth & Rau AG and Meyer Burger signed an agreement on a business combination. Meyer Burger announced on June 28, 2011 that it held 81.89 percent of the shares and thus had the desired majority.

On September 1, 2015, Roth & Rau AG renamed Meyer Burger (Germany) GmbH.
