The red border leaf beetle ( Chrysolina sanguinolenta ), also known as the bloody leaf beetle , is a beetle from the family of leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae). It has become rather rare in Central Europe in recent years, although it can still occur in large numbers in places, especially in sandy areas with large occurrences of toadflax .
features
The beetles are black and reach a size of six to nine millimeters. A characteristic red border runs around the edge of the wing and extends to the shoulders. The base of the deck wing is excluded. The edge of the pronotum is rounded, the front corners are only marginally developed. The wings are irregularly punctured lengthways, the points being larger in the males than in the females.
Occurrence
The beetle lives in sandy areas from March to October. The species is absent in the Mediterranean region. However, it is widespread far to the east (Asia).
Way of life
The Rotsaum-leaf beetle can be on sunny days on Leinkräutern ( Linaria encounter).
