The red-tailed vanga ( Calicalicus madagascariensis ) is a passerine bird in the family of the Vangawurger (Vangidae).
features
The red-tailed vanga is a small, stocky vanga strangler, 13–14 cm tall, 14–19 g in weight. Head cap and neck, back are gray, the iris is dark, the legs are gray. The male has black throats and reins, with white forehead and ear covers, chest and belly are white with pink on the flanks. The wings are brown, the wings are gray, the top of the tail is reddish. In the female, the throat, breast and belly are ocher-colored and the wings are brown.
behavior
It feeds on small and medium-sized insects , caterpillars and beetles, including chameleons. Red-tailed vangas are monogamous and breed between October and January. Both sexes are involved in nest building.
distribution and habitat
The redtail vanga is endemic to Madagascar . It can be found in the treetops together with other bird species as a mixed flock of "mixed flock" in the rainforest up to 1200 m altitude and in the spiny forest north of the Toliara province .
Hazardous situation
The stock is not considered to be at risk ( least concern ).
