Calicalicus is a genus of birds from the family of the Vangawurger (Vangidae). It is endemic to Madagascar .
features
The species of the genus are small vanga stranglers, the red-tailed vanga reaches a body length of 13 to 14 cm and a weight of 14 to 18.6 g, the red shoulder vanga a body length of 14 to 15 cm and a weight of 15 to 17.4 g. The sexes are different. The males have red-brown wing-coverts and control feathers . The top is gray, the underside light, the throat black. The upper side of the females is brown and the throat lighter than that of the males. The beak is relatively short but strong.
habitat
Calicalicus species are common in all forested habitats in Madagascar. They occur from above sea level to altitudes of 1400 meters, locally up to 2000 meters.
Way of life
Calicalicus species are tree-dwelling insectivores that often form flocks with other species. The simple, cup-shaped nest is built into a fork of a branch. Both sexes take care of nest building, hatchery and rearing of the young.

The genus includes two allopatric species:
- Red-shouldered vanga ( Calicalicus rufocarpalis ) - Southwest Madagascar
- Red-tailed vanga ( Calicalicus madagascariensis ) - widespread, north, west, and east of Madagascar.
