Roue de Paris on the Place de la Concorde, December 2011

The Roue de Paris is a ferris wheel in Paris that was first installed in December 1999 on the Place de la Concorde to mark the turn of the millennium . It was built by Nauta-Bussink in the Netherlands. It stands in the tradition of the Grande Roue de Paris , which was built for the World Exhibition in 1900 and dismantled in 1937.

The first operating license for the Roue de Paris expired on December 31, 2000. Despite this, the operator Marcel Campion refused to cease operations. Only after a court ruling did he dismantle the Ferris wheel in January 2002 and sell it to Great Britain. There it was from November 2003 to February 2004 in Birmingham and in December 2004 at the Christmas market in Manchester . At the beginning of 2005 it was sold to the company Magic Fair Attractions bv owned by the Dutchman Leon Snep . After a flying visit to the World Town Fair in Sittard -Geleen, it was on Museum Island in Amsterdam in the summer months . In 2006 the Ferris wheel was in Bangkok . Today it belongs to Freij Entertainment International.

A Ferris wheel of the same name has been back in Paris since Easter 2010. However, it is a newly built model from the Dutch carousel forge Mondial. The height is given as 55 meters. The special thing about it: it is built on three trailers. In addition, three transports are required for the gondolas and one for the other superstructures. It is in four different locations throughout the year: from April to May on the Foire du Trône , in July and August at the Fête des Tuileries , from September to October at the Fête à Neu-Neu and from mid-December to January on the Place de la Concorde at the entrance to the Tuileries Garden .
