Roy Oliver Disney (born June 24, 1893 in Chicago , † December 20, 1971 in Burbank ) was the older brother of Walt Disney , with whom he founded the Walt Disney Company in 1923 as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio . While his brother covered the creative part of the company, Roy Oliver Disney was responsible for the financial part. He was chairman of the board (1929-1971) and president (1945-1971) of the Walt Disney Company .

Life

Roy Oliver Disney was born in Chicago to Elias Disney and Flora Disney, née Call. In 1925 he married Edna Francis (1890-1984), with whom he had a son named Roy Edward Disney (1930-2009).

He died two months after the opening of Disney World at the age of 78 years at a stroke and was in the Forest Lawn cemetery in Hollywood buried.

In Disney World there is a statue in the Magic Kingdom of Roy Oliver Disney sitting on a park bench next to Minnie Mouse .
