The Royal Corps of Signals (also known as the Royal Signals , abbreviated R SIGNALS ) is one of the British Army's combat support units . The signals units are used early in combat to set up combat area communications and information systems.

The Royal Signals units maintain the British Army's global telecommunications infrastructure. The corps has its own technicians, logisticians and system administrators to ensure military radio and various other communication networks in the field. It is responsible for the installation, maintenance and operation of all types of telecommunications equipment and information systems , support of commanders and their headquarters, and electronic warfare against enemy communications systems.

Training and way of working

Royal Signals officers receive general military training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst , followed by specialized IT training at the Royal School of Signals , Blandford Camp , Dorset . These officers are then no longer subdivided into units - their training covers the entire range of their future field of activity.

Other ranks are trained both as field soldiers and as communications specialists. They receive their basic military training in the British Army Training Regiment in Winchester , after which they undergo specialist training in the 11th (Royal School of Signals) Signal Regiment. There are currently six different training paths for non-officers, all of which are accessible to both soldiers and women soldiers:

  • Installation Technician: Training areas installation and repair of fiberglass and telephone lines
