The Royal Kerckhaert Horseshoe Factory is a Dutch farriers business , a family business based in the village of Vogelwaarde . In addition to an office building in Vogelwaarde, Kerckhaert also owns a warehouse in Hulst , a shop in Temse and a farrier in Strömsholm .

history

It was founded in 1906 by Honoré Kerckhaert; In 1913 he won first prize at the Nationale Landbouwtentoonstelling in Scheveningen with a collection of handcrafted horseshoes.

In 1916 production began with the first horseshoe forging machine, and the first machine-made Kerckhaert horseshoes were produced. The son Piet Kerckhaert took over the company in 1938 to continue his father's work. Although the competition was initially strong, that changed around 1950. As more and more farmers began to work their land with machines instead of horses, the demand for horseshoes fell drastically. Only two of the 14 horseshoe factories in the Netherlands survived, Kerckhaert being one of them. Rudy Kerckhaert succeeded his father Piet as the company's board member in 1964. In 1968 the demand for horseshoes exceeded the production capacity of Kerckhaert's factory, so new investments had to be made to increase production. The reason for this was the growing interest in equestrian sports.

The fourth generation of the family took over the business in 1992. Michiel and Martin Kerckhaert began to build additional production facilities. They also opened a new riding and farrier shop in Belgium .

Rudy Kerckhaert continues to run the family business. In addition to horseshoes, the Kerckhaert range includes the complete range of tools with many top brands. Due to the ongoing expansion of the business, Kerckhaert opened a new warehouse with 5000 m² of storage space and a sales center. New main offices were also built in 2007. The company offers more than 1500 models (as of 2011).
