Royal P&O Nedlloyd NV was the name of a global container shipping line based in London and Rotterdam . The company has been part of the Danish A. P. Møller-Mærsk Group since August 2005 , and the line has been running under the name Mærsk Line since February 2006 .

The company was founded in December 1996 as a joint venture between P&O Containers Limited (formerly Overseas Containers Limited ) and Nedlloyd . In 1998 the company took over the container business from Blue Star Line and later also the British Harrison Line and the US Farrell Lines (2000).

In April 2004, Royal Nedlloyd acquired all of the shares. The company was included in Euronext Amsterdam as Royal P&O Nedlloyd NV . It was the third largest container freight company in the world.

In May 2005 , AP Møller-Mærsk published plans to take over P&O Nedlloyd for 2.3 billion euros . The purchase was made on August 13, 2005, and the world's largest line was created. In February 2006 the name Mærsk Line was taken over.

The company had 160 of its own and chartered ships with 635,000 TEU .
