Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolor
The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolors (RSW) is a Scottish association of artists.
The RSW was founded in 1876 with the support of the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh . The founding members, most of the painters, wanted to create a body that could promote and support them in their artistic work. This happened (and continues to this day) mainly through exhibitions, lectures and the like. a.
On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the RSW was awarded a royal statute by Queen Victoria in 1886. Due to this Royal Charter , the company was now allowed to put the term "Royal" in front of its name.
