Emelie Ölander (born June 23, 1989 in Ystad ) is a Swedish football player . The defender , who had gone through several youth selections by Svenska Fotbollförbundet , made her debut in the Swedish national team in 2009 .

Career

Youth and debut in Damallsvenskan

Ölander began playing football at the age of five in the youth team at Malmö FF Dam and went through the individual youth teams. There they discovered those responsible for the Swedish Football Association, whom they appointed for the first time in November 2004 as part of a training camp for a U-15 South selection. In the following year she took part in a training camp for the U-16 national team, but in the first international match of her year, a 3-0 defeat by the German U-16 team, she was not part of the squad. She made her debut in the national jersey on May 12, 2006 in a game against the Finnish U-17 team in a four-country tournament with Finland, Norway and Denmark.

During the Damallsvenskan season 2007, Ölander moved up to the first division squad of the club, which has now been renamed LdB FC Malmö , and made her first division debut. As a supplementary player, she was used irregularly in her first two years in high-class football. At the same time, she established herself in the junior selection, where she was partially appointed to the teams of the older age groups. With the U-19 selection, she took part in the European Championship in France in the summer of 2008 , where she failed with the team in the semifinals at the eventual title holder Italy.

Club change and national team debut

After Ölander could not prevail at LdB FC in the Damallsvenskan team, she considered a move. Djurgårdens IF and AIK Dam expressed their interest, and she finally joined the latter in early 2009. Before the start of the season, national coach Thomas Dennerby appointed the defender to the national team for the Algarve Cup . In the 5-1 opening win against the Norwegian national team , she made her debut in the first half. At the same time, she played her way into the Swedish U-23 team , which was supervised by Malin Andersson and with which she took part in the Nordic Cup . After she had been used irregularly in the senior national team, she was part of Sweden's expanded squad for the 2009 Women's European Championship in Finland . Emelie Ölander is known for her robust and consistent style of play. She herself describes her physique and her energetic demeanor as great strength.
