Royal York is an underground subway station in Toronto . It is on the Bloor-Danforth Line of the Toronto Subway , at the intersection of Bloor Street and Royal York Road. The station has side platforms and is used by an average of 20,230 passengers every day (2015).

There are transfer options to four bus routes. West of Royal York, the route briefly runs above ground, as Mimico Creek is crossed on a bridge there. The station opened on May 10, 1968, along with the Keele - Islington section . Royal York was not included in the initial plans: in the center of the then still independent city of Etobicoke , stations were planned on Prince Edward Drive and Montgomery Road (400 meters east and 200 meters west, respectively). However, the decision was made to build just one station on the Royal York Road in between, in order to better develop the Kingsway business district.
