The Ruahine Range is one of several mountain ranges on the North Island of New Zealand that run parallel to the east coast of the island between East Cape and Wellington .

geography

The Ruahine Range begins around 15 km northeast of Palmerston North at Manawatu Gorge and runs around 100 km in a north-northeast direction to the Taruarau River. The mountain range measures around 20 km at its widest point. The highest point, the Mangaweka , is located around 70 km northeast of Palmerston North and, with a height of 1733  m, is the second highest non-volcanic peak on the North Island, behind the 1754  m high Mount Hikurangi , which is located in the Raukumara Range .
