Rubén Pérez Moreno (born October 30, 1981 in Zaldibar ) is a Spanish cyclist .

Career

Rubén Pérez began his career in 2005 with the Continental team of the Spanish frame manufacturer Orbea and on August 1st he became a trainee with the Basque ProTeam Euskaltel-Euskadi , to which he switched in 2006. In his first season he started at the Vuelta a España , where he finished sixth on the twelfth section from Aranda de Duero to Guadalajara behind the stage winner Luca Paolini .

In the 2007 season he put himself in the scene several times in breakaway groups, but without winning a victory. In the Tour de France he was the driver of all the starters who completed the most kilometers as an outlier.

In 2008 he rode both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España , with his best result being eighth on the 19th section of the Vuelta.

His year 2009 began with several top 10 placements in the Tour of Murcia and the Vuelta a Castilla y León , but he still had to wait for his first professional victory. He rode the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España again . In the Basque one-day race Clásica San Sebastián , which was held between the two tours, he reached ninth place.

In 2010 he achieved his first major success when he won the first stage of the Bayern Tour and took over the overall leader's jersey. On the second stage he lost it to Leigh Howard through time bonuses , got it back on the third stage and then lost it in the individual time trial to the eventual overall winner Maxime Monfort . At the Tour de France , his best result was a ninth place on the first stage. He finished second on the fifth stage of the Eneco Tour and only missed victory by four seconds.

At the Tour of Catalonia 2011 , he won the sprint ranking with numerous top placements. He was again active in the Tour de France , but has to wait for his first stage win.
