Life

Kraemer began a teacher training course in 1964 at the University of Education in Saarbrücken, which he completed in 1967. At the same time he studied viola and chamber music at the Saarland University of Music . This was followed by studies in musicology , educational science and philosophy at the Saarland University , which he completed in 1975 with his doctorate. After school service in Saarbrücken, he worked for eight years from 1970 as a research assistant at the University of Education in Saarbrücken. In 1978 he received a professorship for music education at the Detmold University of Music in the field of school musicians and instrumental teachers training. From 1985 to 2010 he taught as a full professor for music education at the University of Augsburg . There he was, among other things, the planning officer of the Philosophical Faculty for the new building of the Center for Art and Music. After the dissolution of the Nuremberg-Augsburg University of Music, he campaigned for the preservation of artistic courses in Augsburg. From 2008 on, as founding director, he was largely responsible for setting up the Leopold Mozart Center at the university. The new university musical training center was not founded as a separate faculty, but integrated as an institute that unites art and science in the Philosophical and Social Sciences Faculty of the University of Augsburg, which included music education (as a teaching post, master’s degree), musicology and music practice. As a result, the humanities, social sciences and artistic disciplines were networked. In 2010 Rudolf-Dieter Kraemer retired.
