Rudolf Arens

Rudolf Arens (born October 11, 1926 in Saarbrücken , † October 10, 1991 in Bad Hersfeld ) was a German grassland scientist.

Life

Rudolf Arens, son of a grammar school director, studied agriculture at the University of Bonn since 1950 after completing an agricultural practice and received his doctorate there as a student of Ernst Klapp with a dissertation on the initial development of new grassland sowing. He then worked as an assistant at the Institute for Crop Production in Bonn. In 1963 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the long-term development of hay crops. He worked as a private lecturer in Bonn for another five years. In 1968 he was awarded the title of adjunct professor .

Since the spring of 1968 Arens headed the Institute for Grassland Management at the Hessian Teaching and Research Institute for Grassland Management and Forage Production Eichhof - Bad Hersfeld . One focus of his research work was investigations into the suitability of plant species and varieties of permanent grassland for use. In the 1970s he was one of the first researchers in his field to attempt to maintain biotopes and landscapes. Since 1971 he has held lectures on grassland management as an honorary professor at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .

Arens had been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Bavaria Bonn since 1950 .
