Rudolf Aumann (* 1940 ) is a German chemist ( organic chemistry ) who is a professor at the University of Münster .

Aumann received his doctorate in 1967 with Ernst Otto Fischer at the Technical University of Munich and was a post-doctoral student at the University of California, Los Angeles with Saul Winstein until 1969 . In 1972 he completed his habilitation in Münster, in 1974 received a lectureship from the Fonds der Chemischen Industrie and was visiting professor at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1976 and at the Technical University of Munich in 1980. He has been a professor in Münster since 1983.

He deals with organometallic chemistry and synthesis, including carbene complexes with transition metals (an area in which his teacher Fischer was a pioneer), synthesis and catalysis with templates , organometallic stereochemistry and asymmetric synthesis with chiral olefin and carbene complexes, non-classical synthesis of heterocyclic compounds with 2-azaallenyl transition metal complexes and ketene and imine complexes.
