Rudolf Frerichs

Rudolf Frerichs (born April 4, 1901 in Cologne ; † November 27, 1982 ) was a German physicist.

Frerichs received his doctorate from the University of Bonn in 1924 . Together with Carl Ramsauer, he was editor of the Zeitschrift für Technische Physik and at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics in Berlin.

In 1947 he went to Northwestern University , where he became a professor in the faculty of electrical engineering in 1956. In 1969 he retired. In 1950 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society .

He dealt with new light sources, research in the UV range, with the development of the cadmium sulfide photocell, infrared-permeable arsenic trisulfide glass, the production of superconducting films and low-pressure xenon gas discharge tubes.

He contributed to the handbook of physics .
