Rudolf Gornik

Rudolf Gornik (born April 1, 1898 in Sremska Mitrovica , † February 19, 1980 in Zagreb ) was a Yugoslav agricultural scientist who dealt with the cultivation and breeding of tobacco .

Life

He passed his Matura at the secondary school in Osijek in 1916 and studied in Prague , where he obtained a diploma in agricultural science specializing in plant breeding in 1923 .

In 1924 he founded the experimental station for tobacco research in Prilep , which has been part of the University of Skopje as the Scientific Tobacco Institute since 2009 . He initially headed this until he took up a position at the State Tobacco Monopoly in Belgrade in 1939 . From 1946 to 1954 he was again director of the research station in Prilep. There he grew several new types of tobacco. From 1954 he headed the Tobacco Institute in Zagreb .

Rudolf Gornik received several awards and in 1964 became an honorary citizen of the city of Prilep. In 1979 he was elected a member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts .
