Rudolf Horacek

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudolf Horacek (* 1915 in Mannswörth ; † 1986 in Maria Gugging ) was an Austrian visual artist .

From 1981 he lived and worked in what is now the House of Artists of the Art / Brut Center Gugging in Maria Gugging, Lower Austria . His work is primarily received under the Art brut categorization , which, however, is subject to constant discussion in the art-historical discourse.

Life

Horacek became a patient in 1949 in what was then the Gugging sanatorium . In 1979 he started drawing there at the request of and encouraged by other clients. In 1981 he belonged to the group of patients who moved to the “Center for Art Psychotherapy” founded by the psychiatrist Leo Navratil , which is now the House of Artists . This was followed by his participation in numerous international exhibition projects.

Rudolf Horacek created a small oeuvre of only a few hundred sheets. At the center of his work were drawings of human heads, which he executed with pencil and occasionally with colored pencils or colored them with accents. These head representations are structured like a grid. Horacek filled the grids with different hatching, text elements and rows of numbers that build up in layers and give the impression of spatial depth. The word “Horacek in Mannswörth” appears again and again.

Horacek is the creator of the painting “Horacek Rudolf in Mannswörth”, which became its figurative mark when the museum gugging opened in 2006.
