Rudolf Kawalla

Rudolf Kawalla (born October 23, 1952 in Gliwice ) is a German engineering scientist who researches and teaches at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg .

Life

Kawalla, who comes from the Polish town of Gleiwitz, attended elementary school there from 1959 and then switched to the local metallurgical technical center in 1967. He completed his school education in 1972 with a high school diploma and the examination to become a foundry technician. He then studied mechanical engineering from 1972 to 1977 at the Metallurgical Faculty of the Silesian Polytechnic in Gliwice (specializing in forming technology). After completing his diploma, he started working as a research assistant at the Institute for Materials Science at the Silesian Polytechnic. He then switched to industry at ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG , Duisburg, where he was promoted to head of materials and process modeling.

At the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy at the RWTH Aachen University , he was in 1990 on the subject stainless influence of the deformation on the recrystallization and precipitation behavior Mo-containing austenitic steels to Dr.-Ing. PhD. As successor to Wolfgang Lehnert, he has been Professor of Forming Technology and Institute Director of the Institute for Metal Forming at TU Bergakademie Freiberg since May 1st, 1999 .

In the academic self-administration he was Vice-Rector for Research (2006-2010) and Acting Rector (2010). His work focuses on the casting and rolling of magnesium sheets and massive forming. He is the author of numerous books and listed journal publications. He has been a DFG reviewer since 2000 .

In recognition of his work, he has already been appointed honorary professor several times .
