Acacías is a municipality ( municipio ) in Departamento del Meta in Colombia .

geography

Acacías is located in Meta , in the natural region of Piedemonte (foot of the mountain), 28 km from Villavicencio and 126 km from Bogotá at an altitude of 498 m above sea level. NN between the Andes and the Llanos and has an average temperature of 24 ° C. Acacías consists of 97 districts ( barrios and urbanizaciones ) in the urban part and 48 veredas (rural administrative sub- units) in the rural part . The municipality borders in the north on Guayabal and Gutiérrez in the Departamento Cundinamarca and Villavicencio, in the south on Castilla la Nueva and Guamal , in the east on San Carlos de Guaroa and in the west on Guamal. Acacías belongs to the unofficial but de facto existing metropolitan area of Villavicencio .

The municipality of Acacías has 75,252 inhabitants, of which 63,708 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality. 641,634 people live in the metropolitan region (as of 2019).

history

Acacías was founded in 1920 from San Martín by Pablo Emilio Riveros with the aim of making the journey from San Martín to Villavicencio and Bogotá less arduous and offering a possible resting place. Originally the place was supposed to be called Corregimiento de Boyacá , but it finally became Acacías, named after a tree growing there.
