Rudolf Mälzer

Rudolf Mälzer (born December 8, 1881 in Giebichenstein , † June 3, 1937 in Leipzig ) was a German folk singer, comedian and lady actor.

Life

Born in the Saxon town of Giebichenstein, today a district in the north of Halle / Saale, he first learned the trade of a businessman, but was soon inspired to appear as a comedian by the “humoristic gentlemen's singers” of his time. He had success with solo lectures on Saxon folk types such as the "hack driver" or the "complainer" or with figures of craftsmen such as the "street sweeper" or the "bricklayer". His specialty, however, were appearances as a female impersonator, a role subject that existed in every better "gentlemen's society" (cf. his "Butterpietsch'n" or "Die Schmidt'n").

He wrote most of the texts himself. But he also performed couplets by colleagues such as Paul Preil, Martin Loewe and AO Alberts. It was about contemporary phenomena that were critically sung about (“Power and Beauty”, with the title reference to the then popular cultural film “ Paths to Power and Beauty ”) or the pace of time (“Yes, people have today ...”) , or about popular characters in the starry sky (Asta Nielsen, Charlie Chaplin), who were parodically emphasized.

Mälzer appeared in the first houses such as the Leipzig Crystal Palace or the Berlin Winter Garden during the 1920s , but could also be heard on the radio. He has reviewed numerous records for the companies Grammophon and "Homocord". Mälzer died on June 3, 1937 in Leipzig.
