Rudolf Rempel (chemist)

Rudolf Rempel (* 1859 ; † 1893 in Gelsenkirchen ) was a German chemist and inventor .

Rempel was a son of the Bielefeld entrepreneur Rudolf Rempel . In the 1880s, as a chemist in Gelsenkirchen, he developed glasses whose edges were polished smooth and closed with rubber rings and sheet metal lids. Rempel also constructed devices to keep the jars closed during the boiling process . He had this invention patented on April 24, 1892 as a device for automatic closing and venting of sterilization vessels .

One of his first customers was Johann Carl Weck , who after Rempel's untimely death in 1893 acquired the patent and the exclusive right to sell his glasses and devices and made the name of the process known as J. Weck & Co. , now J. Weck GmbH & Co. KG founded.
