What is known today as the Einweck process was invented after 1880 by the Gelsenkirchen chemist Rudolf Rempel and patented on April 24, 1892 . After his younger brother, a manufacturer in Plettenberg , had sent the first corresponding glass containers, the German entrepreneur Johann Carl Weck became interested in the process and bought the patent in 1895. Together with the entrepreneur Georg van Eyck , he founded the company on January 1st, 1900 in Öflingen as "J. Weck u. Co. "initially" for the distribution of jars, rings, pots and accessories of the Weck brand ".

According to the 2011 balance sheet , the company was running at full capacity and was able to increase its turnover from 38.7 million in 2010 to around 39.5 million euros.
