The Rudolf Steiner Archive in Dornach , Switzerland is a center for the documentation and edition of the scientific and artistic work of Rudolf Steiner .
history
The «Rudolf Steiner Estate Administration, association for the administration of the literary and artistic estate of Dr. Rudolf Steiner »was founded in 1943 by Marie Steiner, heiress of Steiner's estate. Since 1961, the 354-volume complete edition of Rudolf Steiner's works and estate has been edited here as a reading and study edition.
Archives holdings
The archive includes shorthand recordings of nearly 4,000 lectures; about 1,800 letters; over 600 notebooks and approx. 7,000 notepads; Thousands of manuscript pages; Sketches, sculptures, building models, furniture and jewelry; approx. 1,100 original blackboard drawings; Rudolf Steiner's private library with 9,000 volumes.
Manuscripts
Most of the original manuscripts and some of the proofs of Rudolf Steiner's writings (GA 1-45) are in the archive . The writings include his works, the essays and the notes from the estate.
Notebooks & Notes
622 Steiner notebooks and 7,450 memos are stored in the archive. Drafts, thoughts, names, addresses, appointments, subscription lists, cost statements, excerpts and drawings can be found in his notebooks and on the notes . The notebooks only contain autobiographical records in exceptional cases.
Correspondence
1,800 letters from Rudolf Steiner and around 12,000 letters to Rudolf Steiner have been preserved. These letters provide information about his life, the genesis of his writings, the creation of lectures and lecture cycles, life and development in the Theosophical and later in the Anthroposophical Society .
Shorthand notes
Of the 6,200 lectures that Rudolf Steiner gave during his life, 3,700 were recorded in shorthand . The majority of the shorthand books were kept. The five official stenographers at Rudolf Steiner's lectures were Helene Finckh, Walter Vegelahn, Hedda Hummel, Georg Klenk and Franz Seiler. These wrote either in the Gabelsberger or the Stolz-Schrey shorthand.
Lecture transcripts
Thousands of typewritten transcriptions of the shorthand recorded lectures and additional listener notes are in the Rudolf Steiner archive. They serve as the basis for the publication of Steiner's lectures (GA 51–354).
Blackboard drawings
Steiner illustrated his lectures on blackboards . These were covered with black paper from 1919, so that 1,100 of his drawings have been preserved. These drawings are published in volumes K 58/1 - K 58/29 of the complete edition.
Rudolf Steiner's private library
Steiner's private library comprises around 9,000 volumes. It is thematically divided into the areas of art, theater, music, literary studies, Goethe, fiction, dictionaries, pedagogy, medicine, law, occultism, World War I, history, philosophy, theology, natural sciences, geography, travel literature. The library gives an insight into Steiner's scientific principles.
Documentation of Steiner's Complete Edition
Copies of all of Steiner's ever published editions are collected in the archive. The library documents the creation and development of the publication of Steiner's writings and lectures. Corrections and additions can be tracked based on the individual editions.
Artistic work
Drafts, sketches , models, pastels and watercolors created by Steiner are kept in the archive.
Compulsory library
Carlo Septimus Picht (1887–1954) was one of the first editors of Rudolf Steiner's work. He put together a library that documents the work of Rudolf Steiner. In the library there are books from which Rudolf Steiner quoted or to which he referred.
