Rudolf Uhlig

Rudolf Uhlig (born January 10, 1909 in Oberwiesenthal , † 2003 in Dresden ) was a German painter , graphic artist and church musician . Mainly he created drawings and watercolors depicting landscapes.

life and work

Rudolf Uhlig was born in 1909 as the son of the Oberwiesenthal postal administrator Rudolf Uhlig. He is the brother of Irmgard Uhlig, who also became known as a landscape painter and mountaineer . After the early death of their father, the family moved to Nossen in 1915 . During his school days he devoted himself to the art of drawing and music and was a member of the Berlin painting and drawing class for three years. In 1929 he took up his teaching degree with the elective subject drawing at the Technical University of Dresden . Together with his sister Irmgard Uhlig, he went on several study trips, including a. to the Baltic Sea, Upper Lusatia and Bohemia. After completing his studies and taking up his work as a teacher, further trips to Italy, the Alpine region and the Rhine followed.

At the end of the nineteen thirties he largely gave up his artistic activity for the time being. In 1946 he returned from captivity and worked as a forest worker, doll carver in Hohnstein in Saxon Switzerland and later as a punch. Finally, he completed training as a church musician and catechist and from 1952 was cantor of the Matthäuskirche in Dresden's Friedrichstadt and most recently in Dresden- Laubegast .

It was not until his retirement in 1974 that he began to draw again and created on several trips, including a. further watercolors and drawings to Scandinavia. He remained artistically active until old age. Most of his paintings are now in private hands. A personal exhibition of his most important works took place for the first time in 2012 at Weesenstein Castle.
