Rudolf Warnking

Rudolf Warnking (* 1938 in Münster / Westphalia) is a German lawyer, politician and university rector.

Vita

Born in Westphalia, he moved to Saarland in the early 1960s after studying law in Münster, Bordeaux and Lausanne. He studied at the European Institute of Saarland University in Saarbrücken and graduated there. From 1967 to 1970 he worked as a research assistant at this institute. In 1970 he was appointed to what was then the State Engineering School in Saarbrücken, the predecessor institution of the Saarland University of Applied Sciences . Warnking was the rector of this college from 1977 to 1983. In 1996 he was again elected rector; he held this office until the end of 2000.

politics

Between 1990 and 1995 Warnking belonged to the Saarland state parliament as a member of the CDU parliamentary group. His main focus there was on the further development of Franco-German cooperation. The establishment of the Franco-German University Institute in 1978 also goes back to his initiative ; This bilateral institute was the forerunner of today's Franco-German University , which represents a network of over 150 member universities from Germany and France.

voluntary work

Rudolf Warnking has been chairman of the Union Foundation (Saarbrücken) for many years, which provides civic, scientific and cultural training. In doing so, it focuses on promoting European unity.
