Rudolf Winkelmayer

Rudolf Winkelmayer (born February 26, 1955 in Hollenstein an der Ybbs , Lower Austria ) is a thought leader and lateral thinker in matters of animal welfare, animal ethics, hunting ethics and venison hygiene as well as lecturer and author of numerous articles and specialist books. Until his retirement he was a general practitioner (specialist for small animals), official veterinarian and food scientist (Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health).

Life

Winkelmayer studied at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna (Mag. Med. Vet. 1980, Dr. med. Vet. 1981) and passed the veterinary physics examination in 1983. He has been a specialist veterinarian for small animals since 1998 and has also been a certified ECVPH (food science) since 2005 . In 2006 he was given the professional title of Professor by the Austrian Federal President ( Heinz Fischer ) . Until the end of 2013 he was the official veterinarian ( real councilor ) of the district authority of the Bruck an der Leitha district and operated an ordination in Pachfurth .

  • Central European Institute for Wildlife Ecology; Vienna - Brno - Nitra Board member (Vice President): 2003 - to date
  • International Research Forum on Game Meat Hygiene (IRFGMH) 2009: Member of the board
  • Platform of Austrian Veterinarians for Animal Welfare (ÖTT): spokesperson since it was founded in 2009.

Honors

  • Award of the "Josef Bayer Medal" by the professors of the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna for special scientific achievements (December 14, 2000)
  • CIC (International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation) - literary prize for the book "Wildbret-Hygiene" (April 25, 2008).
