Topographic map of Jan Mayens |
Rudolftoppen , also German Rudolfspitz, is a mountain on the island of Jan Mayen, which belongs to Norway . With a height of 769 m it dominates the south-western part of the island ( Sør-Jan ). Like all of Jan Mayen, the Rudolftoppen is of volcanic origin.
The mountain got its name from an Austro-Hungarian expedition that operated a research station on the island under the direction of Emil von Wohlgemuth as part of the First International Polar Year 1882/83. It commemorates Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria-Hungary .
