Rudolph Bonaparte

Rudolph Bonaparte (born before 1960) is an American civil engineer specializing in geotechnical engineering .

Bonaparte studied civil engineering at the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's degree in 1977 and from the University of California, Berkeley , with a master's degree in 1978 and a PhD in geotechnical engineering in 1981. He was President and CEO of Geosyntec Consultants for twenty years Atlanta before becoming Chairman and Senior Principal of the firm in 2016.

He also teaches part-time (as Professor of the Practice ) at Georgia Tech .

He is known for his contributions to geotechnical engineering with geosynthetics (such as HDPE membranes), for example for sealing landfills.

In 2018 he gave the Terzaghi Lecture . In 2016 he received the Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and their James Croes Medal in 2000. In 2007 he became a member of the National Academy of Engineering .
