The third Rugby League World Cup took place in Great Britain for the first time in 1960 . Four teams took part in it and the games were played in the northern England rugby league strongholds of Bradford , Leeds , Swinton and Wigan . As in the 1957 World Cup , only one group stage was played and the world champion was determined using the final table. The 1960 Rugby League World Cup faced problems that had not occurred in previous World Cups. For example, the live broadcast of complete games on television resulted in a lower number of viewers in the stadiums than expected. The first place in the table went to Great Britain, which won the World Cup for the second time.
