The Ruhrstahl implement carrier was a universal tractor . It was brought onto the market by Ruhrstahl AG in 1951 in order to avoid the Allied production restrictions after the Second World War as a former arms company . A total of only around 500 copies were built.

It was developed by Heinrich Hildebrand, who had developed a motorized tilting plow in the Hildebrand plow factory in Unna as early as 1927, in which many of the later functions of the implement carrier were anticipated. Although only a prototype of this had been built, Hildebrand developed the concept further. The implement carrier was first presented in 1951 at the DLG exhibition in Hamburg. Years later Ruhrstahl received the Grand Prize for the rationalization of rural soil work from the DLG . The Ruhrstahl was probably not a sales success primarily because of the high price of 19,000 DM. So it was too expensive for smaller farmers , while larger ones needed more engine power. It remained a niche product for the cultivation of root crops and special crops . In 1956, production was stopped again after the Ruhrstahl AG was enabled by the lifting of production restrictions to produce products with a higher added value.

In contrast to standard tractors , his system of a universally applicable tractor was based on two raised bars connecting the front axle with the rest of the vehicle and the seat in front of the engine on the rear axle. This enabled devices such as hoeing devices, multiple devices, harrows , seed drills or planting machines to be attached between the axes . As with other tractors, various devices can be attached to the rear . However, the Ruhrstahl implement carrier did not yet have a three-point hydraulic system . The concept with an unobstructed view to the front offered the option of mounting front loaders , mowers or a small loading area. A total of three PTO drives were available to drive side mowers, cable winches , fertilizer spreaders, beet lifters and other things.

Another special feature of the device carrier was that it did not have an accelerator pedal , but only a hand throttle on the steering wheel. The other equipment consisted of the manufacturer's own four-point hydraulic system, a height-adjustable trailer coupling, track eradicators and a belt pulley.
